Motivational Monday! ~ 2/25/13

Hey everyone!

I just finished taking my first Anatomy & Physiology test a few hours ago... I'm desperately awaiting my grade. Until then, here's this week's dose of Motivational Monday! ^_^

I've been an optimist my whole life and proud of it!! I've dealt with a few pessimists. My favorite is when they claim they're "realists, not pessimists". Dude, get over yourself. You're a pessimist because you only see the negative in everything! Realists would see yeah, reality stinks sometimes, but it's beautiful, too! My current difficulty is my A&P class but I'm seeing the opportunity to become a nurse in it!!

P.S. I am getting a headache from spontaneous hiccups. This stinks...

Motivational Monday! ~ 2/18/13

Hey everyone! I hope everyone's Monday was as productive as mine. I had the day off from college due to it being President's Day (hollaaaa) so I studied hard for my first A&P lab practical and exam coming up and had a little fun as well - went to the Goodwill sale, Big Lots, and Walmart with my boyfriend to casually shop and get stuff for his "man cave"... yeah, he has one of those now. lol

Anyways, hope everyone has a great week! ^_^

I'm working on it!! ;)

Motivational Monday! ~ 2/11/13

Hey everyone!

I hope whoever lives on the upper East Coast of the United States is doing alright after the massive blizzard of 2013 - or as Country 92.5 in CT named it, Storm "ClusterFluff" - I LOVE that name. :p

We didn't lose power but got a whoping 40 inches of snow. My street just got plowed yesterday afternoon, but only big enough for one lane. College was cancelled today... we'll see what the rest of the week has in store for us!

Anyways, that's my two cents on this past week/weekend... hope everyone has a safe week!

I thought this was a funny one. Who ISN'T right for getting off the couch?! I love sarcasm sometimes. ;)
Remember to have a positive day! :)

Hugs,
Lauren

Review: Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser

Hello fellow makeup addicted anonymous members!

Okay... so maybe I'm not that "anonymous" about it... hey, I can be loud and proud if I want to be!!

Yeah... okay...

ANYWAYS! This blog post is going to be about my thoughts on the Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser.

This product retails for $25 and you can find it at Nordstrom, birchbox.com, Talika.com, and other places Talika products are sold.

My review of this product is going to [hopefully] be short, sweet, and to the point because I don't think I have too much to say, but enough to get the word out there on my opinion!

Here, let's split it into pros and cons...

PROS:
  • Not sticky
  • Slippery (in a good way)
  • Removes ALL eye makeup - eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner (and I wore my Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner - that's tough stuff!)
CONS:
  • BURNS EYES!
So clearly, I have more pros than cons. That's definitely a good sign! However, I won't be purchasing this product because although it easily removed some of the toughest makeup to get off, it burned my eyes pretty badly. Have you ever had a bad experience with your favorite makeup remover wipes turning on you and burning your eyes like crazy? Well, that's what happened here, only in a gel form. My eyes literally burned for a good 10 minutes after I was finished removing my eye makeup. I even showered afterwards to see if the burning would subside quicker but alas, there was no solution.

Below are a couple pictures of the product sample I received in a monthly subscription service called Birchbox. Basically, for $10 a month you get to try out 4-5 different beauty related samples, with the occasional high-end, full size product thrown in! I'll post a link to the website at the end of this post.

The front features the name of the product along with the information indicating that this product is oil free. Oil free is always something I look for in skincare since I have combination/oily skin, but in a makeup remover/lash conditioning treatment? Honestly, I don't think I care, since it seems even oil free burns my eyes like a volcano!

I wasn't able to get a good shot of the back of the packet, but the expiration date is April 2014 and it is described as, "Made from silk proteins and cornflower water, this gel removes mascara effectively and restructures weakened eyelashes." Sounds like good ingredients to me, however it was still to harsh for the eye area, clearly. At least for me...

At the end of the day, I do think my eyelashes felt a little softer and stronger after using this product and like I said, it took the makeup off quickly and effectively, but the burning just totally turned me off from using this product ever again. I have one more packet from Birchbox which I will probably give away to someone who wants to give it a go (good luck!! - hey, we're all different) but other than that, I will definitely NOT be buying this product full size. $25 is too much in my opinion for something like this anyways.

Remember to have a positive day! :)

Hugs,
Lauren

College Life: The Cost of Sticky Notes

If you're currently a college student or ever have been, you know the true meaning of "investing in your future". They're not kidding... it sure is a hefty investment.

I have the luxury of being able to start out at a community college to get my associate's and get all my prerequisites done for the nursing program I'll end up choosing. But still, I'm paying for all my schooling - whether that's with the [little] help of financial aid or taking out student loans that ultimately accrue too much interest, I'm doing it. I can't complain, I have my parent's roof to live under, they help me with gas money, and they're very supportive of whatever my dreams are. It's the least I could do after all these years they've spent [time & money wise] on me.

Anyways! Back to the subject of this blog post. This may seem like a small expense, but I needed some sticky notes for marking important things on pages of my A&P (Anatomy & Physiology) book. So last Thursday, I stopped by my school's bookstore and picked up a pack of Post-It brand sticky flags. Ya know, the skinny ones you put on the edge of the pages. They were only $2.79, so not bad, right?

The next day I was at my boyfriend's house. His mom came home and said she had bought this awesome pack of different size sticky notes from Family Dollar for us to use for studying. I was shocked by how much was in the package and asked how much they were. Her response?

$2.00 - yup, two dollars even.

I was shocked... and that's what brought on this blog post! So below are a couple pictures of both sets... you be the judge of the better value!

This is the set my boyfriend's mom found at Family Dollar for $2. See all the different colors, shapes, and sizes? Now the only thing I noticed is the little arrows ones at the bottom right corner (the ones I really wanted) are less amount wise than the ones I bought from the school store. But still - this is a much better bang for your buck. The sticky-ness is comparable to the Post-It brand sticky notes. Plus, it even clips into your binder!

This is the pack I bought from the school store. I thought it was cool that it came with the little sample of those flag sticky things, but you only get 5 of those. In this pack, you get a total of 250 of the straight edged little sticky notes, which means 50 of each color. It's not a bad amount and I suppose the price really isn't that much to complain about at only 79 cents [before tax] more, but I just love the value of the other kit so much more.
Ultimately, I'm so much more excited to use the valuable kit bought from Family Dollar than the plain old pack bought from my school store. End of story.

I hope you guys enjoyed this different kind of blog post - let me know if these random "day-in-the-life" kind of posts appeal to you and you'd like to see more! ^_^

Remember to have a positive day! :)

Hugs,
Lauren

P.S. I plan on returning the Post-It notes I bought from my school store. ;)

Motivational Monday! ~ 2/4/13

Hey guys!

Sooooo... O.M.G.

This past week has killed my mentally from studying my buns off for Anatomy & Physiology 1! But I know it will pay off... so here's this week's dose of motivation, straight from the source that needs some herself! ;)

I thought this was a perfect quote for my past week. Science is by far my weakest subject, therefore it's at the end of my comfort zone to be in such a difficult, important class. But I just have a great feeling that this will all pay off in the end. :)
Remember to have a positive day! :)

Hugs,
Lauren
